Critical Debates in Design: TASK 4: CSR Corporate Social Responsibility

CSR also known as corporate responsibility or corporate social performance. CSR policy purpose is self-regulating mechanism where business would observe and make certain its observance to law, ethical and international standards. Business must have responsibility for their actions on the environment, consumers, employees, stakeholders and communities. Business would encourage public interest for community expansion and development and not perform to damage the public. Development of Business ethics is one of the structure of applied ethics which inspect ethical rules and ethical problems which can occur in the business. CSR key subjects are authority, environmental management, stakeholder engagement, labour standards, employee and community relations, social equity and human rights. CSR is not just about rewarding the responsibility to society; it has also to bring an advantage. successful CSR programme, companies can: develop right to utilize to capital, strong decision making and reduce risk, improve brand image, reveal hidden commercial and new markets, reduce costs, maintain and encourage employees.
Marks & Spencer is a very well business with major powers. M&S CSR policy is  listening and to take an action to the request of the company's stakeholders and the necessity of sustainable development. Their policy is having good relationships with employees, suppliers and the community.
CSR help M&S to attract shoppers to their stores, keep the best staff, make profit for their shareholders. Their method has three principles: They make it sure that they sell their products in a responsible way. They control their broad range of unprocessed materials, production procedure in the countries. Their products have three phases.
Production: Including the production of raw materials and manufacturing.
Selling: Distribution and selling where they have direct control.
Usage: When their products have been used by their customers and inclined.
Why their CSR policy is good: They create employment openings in the UK and overseas in their production, selling and distributing departements. They promote their methods of employment to their business partners, franchisees  and suppliers. They are funding the members of business in the community and stay active members. They encourage the business companies to invest in social development. They provide employment, products and services which plays an important role in the high streets. They believe that successful business involves in economically healthy and continuous communities. They produced CSR report every year that shows which progress they are making. It is important for them to receive the feedback for their CSR report from the community. I have got social responsibility to the community and to the environment as a designer.
I have to protect the environment and have to be careful not to damage it. I would also help to the community where i can participate to the charity works as a designer. I would be very beneficial just using my design skills by working voluntarily for important organisations.
